The intended learning outcomes (LO) are that on completion of this module the student should be able to:

1.Demonstrate competencies and reflection on Career planning and development
2.Demonstrate competencies and reflection on the skills involved in producing documentation to support an application for a placement role.
3.Demonstrate competencies and reflection on Job interview techniques and skills.
This module is assessed by coursework (VLOG).
Scenario for assessment:

You have applied for a post and been shortlisted to the next stage, which requires a recorded presentation / VLOG. You need to include the following two aspects in it.

1.Reflect on your ideal career pathway using a reflective framework.  It is recommended that you adopt Rolfe et al. (2001) - “what? So what? Now what?” for the purpose of this assessment. (Max 10 mins). In this include:
what your ideal career is and why it is important to you (LO1)
what steps you have taken to develop your CV and other relevant documents and why it is important to you (LO2)
what steps you have taken to engage with professionals this semester to work towards your career objectives/job applications and why it is important to you (5% engagement mark relating to LO1, LO2 and LO3)
What the next steps are to continue your career development (LO1, LO2, LO3)

2.Answer the following interview scenario question (LO3 – max 5 mins):
Can you think of a time when you gave a presentation in front of others or were in an interview? Explain that situation and what you learned using the STAR structure, including reflections on your strengths and weaknesses and how this relates to relevant job interview skills and techniques.

When presenting ensure that you are providing evidence-based answers and include citations to relevant theory and research embedded within your slides.

You should produce a 10-15 minute VLOG (i.e. the VLOG should be no less than 10 minutes and no more than 15 minutes long). You need to ensure that BOTH you and your content are seen and heard during your VLOG in the same way you would during an online interview with an employer. You can choose the media to present and record your VLOG (e.g., screencast-o-matic, Zoom, DaVinci etc), save this as an mp4 file (DO NOT use zip files), and upload to the submission portal before the deadline (give yourself plenty of time to ensure this is uploaded correctly!).

In making your VLOG, we’re most concerned about the quality and validity of the content, both in your visual and oral aspects of your presentation. However, we will also be considering the quality of the VLOG in terms of style and clarity, and your oral communication skills.
Checklist for submission includes:
1.Cover page with feedforward information
2.Recorded VLOG saved as mp4 file
3.Reference list (either at the end of the VLOG or as separate file)

The time limit for this assignment is between 10 minutes (minimum) and 15 minutes (maximum). This time limit has been set purposefully to encourage you to think carefully about your reflections that you are presenting and to have enough time to provide sufficient evidence for each LO. These are skills that will be beneficial in the remainder of your modules throughout your course and for any future presentations you will deliver in employment or graduate studies.

This time limit is provided as guidance to ensure that your submission provides enough depth while also staying focused and concise. The marking criteria reflects this and therefore any submission outside of this time limit of 10-15 minutes will be marked accordingly.

Also note there is a maximum upper time limit on the free version of Screencast-o-matic (if you choose to use this) which means you cannot save videos that are longer than 15 minutes (even by 1 second).
Citations for sources needed to be included in your VLOG as they are mentioned with their full references listed either at the end pages of your VLOG or as a separate file uploaded with your VLOG. Any academic sources cited in your VLOG should be from credible sources (e.g. books, journal articles, government reports, professional publications). University has adopted the APA style (7th edition) as the standard format for citations and references.

We will mark your work and provide you with feedback explaining the strengths and weaknesses of your assignment. We internally moderate a representative sample of marked work across the full spread of results. There may be comments on some of your assessed work which will indicate that it has been included in the moderated sample. Following this internal moderation, an external moderation process will take place.
