Assessment Task A: Skills Activity

The Skills Activity is designed to be a series of demonstrative tasks that should be assessed by observation (by the assessor or third party, depending on the circumstances).

It will demonstrate all of the skills required for this unit of competency – your assessor will provide further instructions to you, if necessary.

Task summary

Objective: To provide you with an opportunity to show you have the required skills for this unit.
This activity will enable you to demonstrate the following skills:
Reading
Writing
Oral communication
Numeracy
Navigate the world of work
Interact with others
Get the work done.

Answer the activity in as much detail as possible, considering your organisational requirements.

Refer to case study A.

1. Identify four types of information that would help to support the resource proposal for the Westons bar and grill.
2. Write an email or letter highlighting the need for resources in relation to the operational plan for the Westons bar and grill.
3. Role play a telephone call with a colleague in which you give directions for the implementation of an operational plan.
4. Plan a timetable for aspects of the operational plan.

5. Role play a discussion in which you act as the manager and another individual acts as an employee and have a discussion about the relocation of Digitise.
6. Using mathematical information that is appropriate to your workplace, calculate the amount of a given resource which is required.
7. Role play consulting a health and safety specialist about changes to organisation policy.

Assessment Task B: Knowledge activity (Q & A)

The Knowledge Activity is designed to be a verbal questionnaire where the assessor asks you a series of questions to confirm your competency for all of the required knowledge in the unit of competency.

Task summary

Outline the legislative and regulatory context relevant to the operational plan of the organisation
Outline the organisation’s policies, practices and procedures that directly relate to the operational plan.

Answer each question in as much detail as possible, considering your organisational requirements for each one.
1. Describe how you would create an operational plan.
2. Explain the role of an operational plan in achieving the organisation’s objectives.
3. Identify five types of considerations in relation to budgeting processes.
4. How can you develop key performance indicators to meet business objectives?
5. What legislation or regulation will directly affect the operational plan in your organisation (or an example organisation)?
6. Give examples of your organisation’s policies, practices and procedures that directly relate to the operational plan. (Learners may use an example organisation to answer this question.)

Assessment Task C: Performance activity

The Performance Activity is designed to be a practical activity performed either in the workplace or a simulated
environment. You should demonstrate the required practical tasks for the unit of competency and be observed by the assessor and/or third party, as applicable to the situation. If the third party is required to observe you, you will need to make the required arrangements with them.

If necessary for the activities, you should attach completed written answers, portfolios or any evidence of
competency to this workbook.

Task summary

Objective: provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate the required performance elements for
this unit.
This activity will enable you to demonstrate the following performance evidence:
Develop and implement an operational plan using a variety of information sources and consultation
(including using specialist advice if required) which includes:
o resource requirements
o key performance indicators
o monitoring processes
o contingency plans

Communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders to explain the plan and supporting information, seek approvals, negotiate variations and engage work teams
Develop and implement strategies to achieve the operational plan within the organisation’s policies, practices and procedures including:
recruiting, inducting and developing personnel
acquiring physical resources and services
protecting intellectual property
making variations to the plan
monitoring and documenting performance.

Answer the activity in as much detail as possible, considering your organisational requirements.

1. Identify four resource requirements which Matt might specify in his operational plan.
2. Give four examples of key performance indicators which matt might include in his operational plan.
3. Specify five elements which Matt might include within the contingency plan.
